Important Things to Remember for First-time Diving Experience

Important Things to Remember for First-time Diving Experience

Millennials nowadays are so much into adventure and one of the bucket list that needs to be ticked off when in the Philippines is scuba diving.

Anilao, Batangas is a go-to for first-time divers primarily because this is the most accessible dive spot in Luzon closest to Metro Manila. Here at Eagle Point Resort in Batangas, we easily get fully booked during the weekends to accommodate divers. There are several dive sites to explore plus, there’s a lot to see even at our very own house reef! We have giant clams with goby, blue and ribbon eel, mantis shrimp, nudibranch, and many more.

The best part about getting into this underwater adventure is that you don’t need to be certified to try it. And if it’s your first time diving especially in Anilao, here are some of the things that you should know before you go:

Choose a reputable and certified Beach resort in Batangas with friendly instructors.

When you first start with scuba diving, you might not have any idea what to expect – your instructors will paint a very clear picture of everything before you’ll be allowed to venture into the depths of water. So, do your research and look for certified dive shops with experienced instructors. Make sure that they are PADI-certified (PADI is a well-known diving organization in the world) and you are comfortable learning with them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions: How many dives have they completed? How many years of experience do they have leading first-time divers? Will they assist with your equipment?

Keep calm and breathe underwater

The cardinal rule of scuba diving is to keep breathing – never EVER hold your breath! Stay calm and enjoy the experience. If you start panicking, feeling nervous and breathing rapidly, you’ll use up your air a lot faster.

Keep your buddy close.

When you start diving, you’ll be asked to pair up with a buddy. It’s best to go with someone you trust, most first-time divers are paired with an instructor. You’re responsible for keeping an eye with your buddy and they should pay attention to you too. Never stay away you’re your dive buddy or group because they will be the first people to help in case someone needs to share air or has an issue.

Enjoy the moment – take time to look around!

Keep an eye with your guide and follow where he takes you. Guides are there to serve their purpose. Focus on where he’s pointing and see it the magical underwater world in a different perspective – take it all in!

There’s a NO-FLY rule after your first dive

Yes, you can’t fly within 24 hours because your body needs time to readjust in the surface. Safety first! The best way is to dive is in between your vacation or at least 24 hours before you plan to fly anywhere else to avoid decompression sickness.

And if you’re staying at Eagle Point Beach Resort, extending another night stay is totally worth it so you can explore and enjoy more of Anilao, Batangas beaches.
