How to Stay Hydrated During Summer Season

Summer season in the Philippines is something anyone would hate on a normal day going to work, but also something anyone would love going to the beaches in Batangas.

However, wherever we are, there is no denying that we all find creative ways to stay cool during the hottest time of the year- whether it’s wearing loose, light clothes or packing a fan wherever we go. But there is one more important thing to really think about during summer- staying hydrated.

Hydration is crucial especially in a tropical country like ours, so to help make sure you don’t spend your summer stuck in the hospital due to dehydration or worse, heat stroke, here are a few things you could do to stay hydrated when the sun is the season’s main character:

  1. Drink lots of water

This is kind of obvious and quite self-explanatory, but we still find it too important to not make it the first on the list. Water is not just needed to quench your thirst but also vital in the processes that happen inside your body- from waste management to blood circulation. Drinking water will keep your body temperature making it easier to prevent dehydration. The famous rule is to drink at least 8 glasses of water, but the amount of water you have to intake really depends a number of things such as your lifestyle, your size, and your weight.

  1. Drink right

Notice how we specified the word “water” on the first item? It’s because not all drinks are going to help keep you hydrated. Drinks packed with caffeine or sugar like sodas and coffee, can actually make you feel more thirsty. Alcohol also falls in this category, so as much fun as it is to have a bottle of beer by the beach in Batangas with your friends, do so sparingly. Besides the content of these drinks, one other reason you should steer clear of them is that it makes you go the the bathroom more often, which means more fluids actually leave your body. But in the event that you can’t help but satisfy your craving for soda or liquor, then just make sure you have water ready.

  1. Eat fruits and vegetables

Staying hydrated is not just about liquids, it has a lot to do with with what you eat as well. Remember, 20 percent of your water intake is sourced from what you eat, so be very mindful of your diet. Include fruits and vegetables on your meals. Go for those rich in water such as cucumber or watermelon. Celery, cauliflower, and broccoli are also good so opting for salad every now and then is not a bad idea.

So before you pack your bags ready for your Batangas beach summer getaway, make sure to hydrate with lots of water, fruits, and vegetables. Why? Because if your body is as its best, then you’ll have more energy to conquer a fun summer here at Eagle Point Beach and Dive Resort in Batangas!
