Batangas is a beach destination known for its numerous amazing dive sites. One of the more popular ones is Barangay Anilao located in Mabini. Considered as the birthplace of scuba diving in the country, Anilao is only three hours away from the city of Manila making it a prime destination for urban-dwellers looking for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
It’s a crowd favorite especially for adventure-seekers wanting to give scuba diving a try. If you are one of those people, Anilao is the best place to be because besides the deeper parts of the sea that’s perfect for professional divers, it also has shallow waters that’s just right for beginners.
The proximity of the island also makes it the best place to dive (see what we did there) into this recreation for those who may still feel a bit of reluctance to travel to far ends of the Philippines just for a first-time try.
The name of the island came from the Sepoc tree which is believed to only grow in the island. The rows and rows of Sepoc trees create a great shade for visitors wishing to just bask under the sun without getting burnt while the waves of the sea serve as the background music. The sand in Sepoc is white so you can have your Boracay fantasies satisfied in the island. Sepoc also has a beach center with an open-sided dining and function area where large group of beach-goers can spend the day. For a panoramic view of Anilao, you could also go up the watch tower where you can take pictures and drink in the surreal horizon. Sepoc Island also has a number of extremely inviting hammocks that would make you want to just relax and listen to some good ol’ beach music.
Another reason to visit Sepoc are sea turtles! Yes, underwater, you can expect to find a wide range of marine life and gardens and gardens of colorful corals but if you’re not yet ready to take it under the sea, you could enjoy witnessing newly hatched sea turtles as they go on their first journey back to the open ocean. We here at Batangas are more than committed to preserve all kinds of marine life in the island and actually do provide care and food for over a hundred hawkbill sea turtles before they return to sea.
If you’re interested in visiting Sepoc Island, you will be happy to know that it’s only 15-20 minutes boat ride away from our vicinity here at Eagle Point Beach and Diving Resort in Batangas. From a diving point of view, you will definitely go back to this island especially since even the shallow waters can boast of small reef fishes and coral gardens. For the more experienced ones, ready your underwater photography skills because Barrel Sponges, Gorgonian Sea Fans, Nudibranchs, and Sea Cucumbers might just grace your camera.
If the many things worthy of seeing in Sepoc just convinced you to spend a weekend here at Eagle Point Beach and Diving Resort in Batangas, then by all means, give us a call! We promise to make even as short as your weekend a time to remember!
